I have been feeling obliged to finish this book as soon as possible as it is one of the most renowned classic. I had a prejudice that this book would be very difficult to read, as this book had been written more than 70 years ago. But I was as relived as it is written in plain sentences.
Many people told that they’d get goose bumps by the author’s insight and foresight, so was I. Entire book is about lampoon of the Soviet Union. Orwell described rise and fall of USSR into details – but also in a funny way as well- and even predicted the end of USSR - They had to be capitalized to survive.
But the more brilliant aspect is that this book can be compared with many other governments throughout of the ages. We can substitute this story for China, which is experiencing huge economic changes and maybe, for Korea and its political and economic changes throughout the history.
The most important lesson from the book that I think is “awareness”. Using the ignorance and indifference of the public, governments or regimes kept disguising the truth and manipulating the public opinion, not only in the communitarian societies, it is also happening in modern republic societies.
People need to be well informed and well aware what’s actually going on in their society. Of course the information that ordinary people can obtain is very limited as the most of animals had trouble to learn reading in the book.
But I think what important is, people need to awake and have the sense to feel the change for the worse. At least, we should build an eye to realize or monitor, should the pigs have changed the seven commandments at their own preference, shouldn’t we?
